A Thank You to Healthcare Professionals

We can’t do this without you.

Whether you’ve been seeking answers to your professional concerns or stumbled upon our website by accident, we’re so grateful to connect with you. Our community is committed to achieving its global mission by partnering with healthcare professionals and patients alike—and we can’t do it without the help of courageous healthcare workers like you.

The Unsilenced Movement is open to patients, parents, families, and healthcare workers involved in voiding cystourethrography (VCUGs).  After connecting with thousands of former VCUG patients and medical allies on an international scale, our team is dedicated to bridging the gap between patients and providers by creating a safe space to share, learn, and work together to improve the standard of care in pediatric urology.

No matter what led you here—whether you’re a seasoned nurse or radiologic tech or child life specialist—this is a safe space to share your experience, voice concerns, explore resources, and seek support.

Why VCUG Reform Is Urgent & Overdue

"I’m an ER tech and even assisting the nurses with straight caths is nauseating. I have to look away every time. I can’t imagine what VCUG is like for the patients."

"I’m an X-ray tech and I’ve been lucky to avoid performing these in my 15 years. I simply couldn’t handle the sounds."

"My mom was an X-ray tech and said she would never let this be done to a child."

"It is so wrong to put kids through a procedure known to inflict similar impacts as [child sexual abuse]. That it is made out to be no big deal is unconscionable."

"I’m an X-ray tech. I have only ever seen [one VCUG] done on a 4-year-old while I was a student. I always said I would never force that on anyone. It was awful."

"I was 7 and the room was full of medical students—it was dehumanizing."

"Painful, humiliating, and completely violating. I remember ever second of mine, 30 years later."

"I was subjected to this [at age] 4. I have never felt safe in this world since. Severely traumatic. Absolutely scarring."

"I was also traumatized as a preschooler and have been diagnosed with PTSD."

"I’ve had this done and I’m scared of anyone touching me down there. About to give birth and it brings back all that trauma."
