An Unsilenced Survivor Story

"I recall crying in pain and fear as they put the catheter in and the fact my mom wasn't in the room with me. I vividly remember one of the nurses sternly telling me the catheter was 'going to hurt a lot more coming out than it did going in,' and still have severe medical anxiety to this day."

I had lots of UTIs as a child and eventually had a VCUG be performed on me. I recall crying in pain and fear as they put the catheter in and the fact my mom wasn't in the room with me. I vividly remember one of the nurses sternly telling me the catheter was "going to hurt a lot more coming out than it did going in," and still have severe medical anxiety to this day.
