An Unsilenced Survivor Story

"The procedure is my first memory. I remember the color of the walls, the pattern on my medical down, and the image of my bladder filling."

I was 2 1/2 according to my medical records. The procedure is my first memory. I remember the color of the walls, the pattern on my medical down, and the image of my bladder filling. Through my entire life after this I would struggle with incontinence. It wasn’t until I was diagnosed at 17 with the condition that they were looking for when I was 2, that my urologists and gyno realized I had developed Hypertonic Pelvic Floor Syndrome. I have to do exercises to have peaceful intimacy. At 20 I had to have another VCUG. My mom was there. I shook and I sobbed and I was sweating all over. The looks from my nurses told me everything that I needed to know. That I was not the only person who had gone through this before, that others had reacted this way as well.
