Group Rules
This forum is for VCUG parents and allies.
This group is specifically for parents and allies seeking resources for VCUG trauma. We hope this channel will be a safe space to ask questions, develop skills to advocate for your child or loved one, and seek support without triggering former VCUG patients in our community. Please note that this is NOT the forum to solicit medical advice or reassurance about medical decisions.
This is NOT the forum to solicit medical advice.
This is NOT the forum to solicit medical advice or reassurance about medical decisions. It is illegal for us to provide medical recommendations or guidance. Only you know what's best for your child, and only you can consent to their medical care. Instead of seeking specific answers, we encourage parents to explore our wealth of resources on informed consent, patient advocacy, VCUG research, and more to help them make informed decisions for their child’s unique health needs.
Be respectful.
Unsilenced is a safe space for individuals from all walks or life. We have a zero-tolerance policy for bullying, bigotry, and harassment. Please respect our community.
No spam or soliciting.
This community is focused on support and healing after VCUG trauma. Please ensure all posts/comments are relevant to this. No spam or soliciting.
No defending VCUGs.
The Unsilenced Movement was founded by former patients who were traumatized by the procedure. Any pro-VCUG language, including supporting or playing "devil's advocate," will not be tolerated out of respect for our survivors. If you wish to promote VCUGs, you are free to do so anywhere else on the internet.
Please include trigger warnings ("TW") for potentially triggering content.
Many parents experience secondary trauma as a result of their child’s VCUG. Please be respectful by including a trigger warning (“TW”) on posts containing graphic descriptions and other potentially triggering materials. The TW should be short and specific. Example: “TW: Forced restraint during VCUG” or “TW: Medical gaslighting for VCUG.”
Please take responsiblity for your own healing/choices.
We do NOT support messaging that puts personal responsibility on others for your healing, choices, needs, etc. Examples include repeatedly pressuring survivors to respond to posts, posting the same question repeatedly in different forums, or dominating threads with recurring topics. Remember, the only person responsible for your health and safety is you. Please be mindful and respect others' boundaries and lived experiences.
Unsilenced is NOT a substitute for professional health services.
Our forums are NOT a substitute for professional health services. We work hard to maintain a safe and private space for former patients to connect with likeminded individuals in a moderated setting. We encourage survivors to seek professional care as needed to prioritize their health. Recurring issues that repeatedly come up in group should be addressed with a licensed professional, and not fellow survivors.
